Minimalism can translate into knife design in many ways, and in the Massdrop x Brad Zinker Dogtooth it’s defined most accurately as everything you need and nothing that you don’t. Zinker, who is a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild, is known for his aversion to nonessential features. Thin blades, skeletonized handles, and simple mechanisms are themes in both his previously-successful Urban Trapper, made for Boker, and the just-revealed Dogtooth.
The Dogtooth isn’t a burly, cut-through-anything pocket knife that will go unused in a dusty drawer; Zinker designed it for everyday tasks such as opening boxes and slicing food. The narrow blade, made of CPM-S35VN stainless steel, employs a Wharncliffe shape that allows for precision handling of its sharp-angled point. The handle, as previously mentioned, is skeletonized titanium, which aids the Dogtooth in staying trim and reaching its 2.2-ounce weight.
Massdrop is currently taking pre-production orders of the Dogtooth and will only produce 1,200 units of the knife. Purchasing the Dogtooth during this period gives buyers a choice in handle color and blade finish as well as a spot in an AMA with Zinker.
