The Piranha’s handle is arguably the most interesting part. It’s available in several different materials, including Micarta, titanium, carbon fiber, and even Ultem. While its makeup is noteworthy, its deployment and locking mechanism make it stand out.

The handle opens like a butterfly knife (or a balisong). But instead of swinging freely, the scales snap back together once the blade is extended, creating a seal with rare earth magnets. It’s an unusual, fidget-friendly oddity of a lock (and deployment) that makes the knife all the more unique.

A labor of love

As mentioned, Suprlativ is the brainchild of a trio of knifemakers: Enrique Peña, Jared Oeser and Javi Garcia. All three are significant designers in their own right.

But what they’re doing with this brand is something truly special. The brand aims to create unique designs that hinge on modern materials, top-notch mechanisms and precision constructions, all while offering them at relatively affordable prices.
