Bob Dylan’s Heaven’s Door Whiskeys

Bob Dylan does more than sing and play guitar. The multi-faceted artist is also a painter, a Nobel Prize-winning author, skilled metalworker, and now, a whiskey maker. He’s just released a trio of award-winning concoctions, called the Heaven’s Door Whiskeys.

Produced in collaboratrion with different master distillers and blenders from across the US, the collection of handcrafted whiskeys includes a Tennessee Straight Bourbon (90 Proof), aged for more than 6 1/2 years in American Oak barrels; a Double Barrel Whiskey (100 Proof) that blends three different whiskeys finished in hand-toasted, new American oak barrels for a secondary aging; and a Straight Rye Whiskey (92 Proof) that goes through a proprietary finishing in toasted oak cigar barrels, resulting in “a smoother, more approachable rye with notes of orange peel, coriander, and spice.”

The whiskeys are presented in beautiful bottles (adorned with drawings of the iron gates created by Dylan) and will be available mid-May, but can be preordered now.

Jameson Bow Street 18-Years Cask Strength Irish Whiskey

Looking to satisfy the appetite of fans asking for a permanent expression of the awarded 18 Years Cask Strength, Jameson has just unveiled their first such concoction to be available globally.

The Bow Street 18-Years Cask Strength is named after the special location where it finishes its maturation–Bow Street, Dublin, where the popular blended whiskey was originally distilled from 1780 to 1975.

The new blend includes pot still and grain Irish whiskeys that have each spent 18 years in bourbon and sherry casks, and then have been married together and re-casked in first-fill ex-bourbon American oak barrels for a final of 6-12 months in the original Maturation House.

Official tasting notes include a nose of “rich wood-driven influence with deep toffee notes and spice,” “hints of leather and vanilla along with a subtle sherry nuttiness creating depth and complexity,” and a long and full finish “with the sweet toffee notes slowly fading while the toasted oak and spice linger throughout until the very end.” This batch is presented at 55.3% ABV and will be available from July 2018.

The Macallan 50 Years Old 2018 Release

The Macallan has announced its 50 Years Old release for 2018, an exquisite single-malt whiskey limited to just 200 bottles.

After having spent at least five decades in handcrafted European oak sherry seasoned casks from Spain, this ‘new make’ spirit is a rich and complex whiskey with a “vibrant amber”color, clocking in at ABV 44.0%.

The rare concoction presents itself with a nose of wood vanillas, ripe blackcurrants, and an earthy tone, while on the palate it offers hints of oak, fudge and toffee, black peppercorns, orange peel and figs. The finish is “a viscous mouth coating, long and slightly dry from the subtle peat notes.” Are you drooling yet?
