Yorebridge House

The Yorebridge House sits in Bainbridge, North Yorkshire as a vacation heaven if in your next sojourn you plan to chart the quaint English county. This boutique hotel is so beautiful it’s a crime to stay in it just for the weekend.

The picturesque countryside and two rivers envelope this homey mansion. This was a dream project of the owners, David & Charlotte Reilly. They wanted to convert the residence into a five-star luxury hotel and restaurant, and the result, as you can see, is nothing short of fantastic.

The Reillys harnessed their artistic prowess and drew from Japanese culture to inject into the space an oriental vibe. Outside, the Yorebridge House looks like a run of the mill county house in this part of England. But inside you’ll find yourself amidst this supremely tasteful ambiance. To say it resembles a home away from home is an understatement.

The Yorebridge House holds five twelve bedrooms. The property is also Victorian Grade II-listed, if you’re into that sort of stuff. And if you’re a history buff, you’ll love that it used to shelter students studying grammar. Is there anything more posh, as they say, than that? The restaurant features menus from head chef Dan Shotton.

David says of the Yorebridge House:

“We are very much looking forward to being part of the Pride of Britain family. It will be wonderful to not only enjoy the company of Pride of Britain guests, but also to meet and share experiences with other members from all the wonderful and inspiring establishments from across the country.”

Grillskar Island

This so-called Grillskar Island is a perfect getaway — that is if you have the money to buy it. On sale now from Sotheby’s, this private slice of haven in Sweden features a timber-clad cabin that screams cozy. More than that, though, what makes this a legitimate Scandinavian retreat is its unbeatable atmosphere.

The seaside residence is a minimalist masterpiece, boasting white planks and natural birch floors. It’s not a grand meditation on space, but it’s one of the homiest spaces we’ve ever encountered. Sometimes, you don’t really need conceptual. You just need practical comfort and solace — crucial must-haves especially if you’re on an island.

Elongated windows pepper the living spaces, allowing the maximum amount of natural light in. Beyond just welcoming plenty of daylight, they also act as your portal to sweeping views of the gorgeous environs. There are only two bedrooms here, which is no surprise considering how small and quaint the house is. Still, what little it has it makes use of well. As such, inspired wooden terraces make up for the lack of space, letting you view the rocky shoreline afar.

Apart from the main residence, the space also comes with a boathouse and a guest cabin, all of which are enveloped by the thick patchwork of trees in the area. This is quite the perfect setting if you’re a writer seeking isolation to write your great next novel. But even if you’re just a regular denizen exhausted by the city’s chaotic bustle, this is a rejuvenating retreat.

FOGO GPS Receiver And Walkie Talkie

It’s never a good idea to brave the backcountry without some form of navigational device on-hand. Which is this Fogo GPS Receiver and Walkie Talkie is a godsend. It’s the only gadget, as FOGO Outdoors claims, that combines GPS, Bluetooth, and voice and text messaging in one package.

Also here is a USB backup battery in case you run out of juice. To top it all off, there’s an inbuilt LED flashlight that’s perfect for emergency situations. It is, in essence, a “peace of mind” kind of gadget — the kind you take along a trip to breathe a sigh of relief.

FOGO also lets you automatically send a text message to friends if you’re in a pickle. It also controls the flashlight with the GPS to help you navigate better. Take it along if you’re going fishing, hiking, traveling, or just plain camping. FOGO might just be your ticket out of a sticky situation.

Though we err on the side of skepticism in terms of FOGO Outdoors calling this a “digital Swiss Army Knife,” it’s quite difficult to argue against that. Though a lofty description, it’s technically correct. This is, after all, bundled with so many potentially life-saving essentials that it’s practically a must-have. Especially if you frequent the outdoors.

The Walkie Talkie is optional, just to note. It’s called the SmartCap, a modular accessory. And since it’s removable, you can pull it out and use other accessories with different functions. For example, FOGO Outdoors plans to make modular plugs that add a satellite modem, avalanche beacon, or a laser range finder to the device.

Victorinox Ranger Of The Lost Art

Victorinox is launching this cinematic EDC as part of its National Parks Swiss Army Knives collection, aptly called Ranger of the Lost Art. What sets these EDCs apart from their siblings is that they each feature iconic ‘30s and ‘40s silkscreen posters. These, if you must know, promote America’s national parks.

These posters were actually headed to the dump at one point. However, and rather fortunately, Park Ranger Doug Leen decided they looked too good just to chuck in the garbage bin. Through laborious research, Leen has recovered 12 of the 14 original designs, and now they cover Vioctorinox’s latest line of robust knives.

The Ranger of the Lost Art series depicts several of those posters. Moreover, this collaboration between the EDC company and Leen seeks to continue the original mission of the posters. Those had aimed to promote art, health, and travel to America’s park hotspots.

Nine of those designs, at $22 apiece, pay homage to some of the country’s largest parks like Yosemite, Glacier, the Grand Canyon, and more. Each Swiss Army Knife boasts the usual suspects: a small blade, scissors, a nail file, a screwdriver, and a toothpick. There’s even some tweezers and a key ring if you need those.

Needless to say this EDC essential has every tool you need to brave the backcountry, which is no surprise. This is, after all, handiwork from Victorinox, whose prowess in this category remains unquestioned. Each knife comes with a lifetime warranty, too, but there’s never been that many cases of them breaking, just so you know. Hit the link below to find out more.

Located in a quaint hamlet called Conca dei Marini, which is just west of Amalfi, the Monastero Santa Rosa hotel sits in a fortress-like cloister. The space, originally built for Dominican nuns, overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea. As a result, there are no sidewalks crowded with tourists. Now, the grounds produce organic ingredients for the on-site restaurant.

The eatery, which earned a Michelin star some years back, offers local dishes and wines housed in the hotel’s 400-bottle cellar. Go to the edge of the garden and you’ll find a stone poolside terrace. Here, you’ll come face to face with the scenic panorama of the Amalfi coast, which is breathtaking in every sense of the word.

Rat Island Retreat

This gorgeous eco resort would live on New York City’s remote Rat Island if it ever becomes more than a concept. A proposal by Jendretzki Design, the plan puts prefabricated gabled cabins on this remote location. It features large glass facades littered along the island’s edge to provide breathtaking views of the ocean. The off-grid resort’s cabins and buildings would use zero-energy, running only on solar and wind power. The carbon-neutral structures would also have rainwater collection systems for potable and service waters.

Rat Island actually exists, by the way. Belonging to a private owner, the landmark spans 2.5 acres and is located just off of City Island Harbor and the greater Long Island sound. The ground is mostly Manhattan schist bedrock, but it’s got an interesting history — this was once home to a quarantine hospital during the typhoid fever panic in the 1800s. There are no buildings here at the moment, though. Probably because water engulfs the whole island during high tide.

Despite such woes, Pablo Jendretzki remains confident the remote island would make the perfect spot for an eco retreat. As for the high tide, he says there’s a small canal penetrating through the island carved out of rocks about 100 years ago. The firm incorporated this into its concept so canoes and small boats can still reach the island even during high tide.

Due to its perilous location, all the structures must have concrete brace foundations. The design also dictates the piers be bolted directly into the landscape. Sadly, this merely is a concept at the moment. However, the firm is presently conducting zoning analysis to determine if it can be done.

TentTube Inflatable Tent

Tents are an essential camping and outdoor gear. That’s annoying because tents, more often than not, are cumbersome to set up. Even someone with heaps of patience might mutter a curse word or two due to how inefficient these things are at setup time. Thankfully, there’s TentTube.

With a similar design to the popular Heimplanet line of inflatable tents, TentTube is itself also an inflatable tent, but one that campers can pitch in just a minute. It’s on Kickstarter right now trying to gather funds, but given how things look, it’s bound to hit its targets.

It’s got a geodesic structure and a lightweight profile that amazingly requires no heavy tent poles.

“Traditional tents are hard to pack, cumbersome to carry, and difficult to set up. We set out to begin a revolution in the tent industry,” says the company behind this effort. By replacing the traditional poles with our Patented inflatable AirFrame, TentTube is 50% lighter and smaller, making it your perfect home on the go.”

A true revolution in the world of camping gear, TentTube features air-filled tubes instead of poles. As a result, it’s way, way lighter than its peers. 50 percent lighter, to be exact. And when you’re done, it folds and slips into an ultra small packing space. This is perfect for those who always travel light. Especially since they won’t be lugging any cumbersome poles along.

Inside, TenTube provides overnight shelter for a maximum of three people. Although you could technically squeeze in more if you’re creative enough. Plenty of handy stash pockets inside too, for your belongings. Really, what’s not to like here?

Earth Traveler Teardrop Trailer Made Of Chicken Feathers

Mexico-based startup Earth Traveler brings us this ultra-chic teardrop-style trailer, which you will never guess features a chicken feather construction.

That’s right — this trailer’s skeletal archway consists of lightweight feather composite that aims to put minimal stress on your engine. And you wallet, for that matter. So it’s cheating a bit on the range-topper variant, which features carbon fiber. But this version above is made from chicken feathers, a material that’s literally featherweight.

At setup, there are full-length gull-wing panels that rise up, which makes for a spacious standing room and a cozy interior fully integrated into the enveloping outdoors. Founder Angel Irlanda wanted his whole family to sleep inside the trailer, which left the aluminum two-person teardrop setup out of the question. As a result, he sought to channel his inner artist and reimagined the teardrop as a larger, more open dwelling. The first prototype came from simple, accessible materials like wood and fiberglass.

He’s planning to release two teardrop models. The first one, as mentioned, is a range-topper that’s fully carbon fiber. With an estimated weight of just 216 pounds, it will mark one of the lightest trailers for a family of four to date. But the kicker here, obviously, is the chicken feathers model, the T300. It’s much more affordable and boasts a strength close to that of carbon fiber when set in resin, according to Irlanda. Best of all, it’s far cheaper than other composites, bringing the estimated retail price of this model to just $10,000.

Top 10 Cleanest Countries In The World

Traveling to some of the magnificent places in the world is a life-changing  experience. You exponentially expand your view of the world. A famous quote from Saint Augustine of Hippo reads, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

If you are one of those that agree with Saint Augustine, then most likely, your bucket list includes feeding your wanderlust. The question is when?

More or less, you think you hardly have the time or money. But the time is now. They say that money will come back, but time simply won’t.

So, now, you might want to realize your dream of taking your well-needed vacation and explore countries in Europe, Oceania, or Asia. Imagine yourself diving in the most pristine beaches, taking a selfie at ancient landmarks, discovering the richest culture, or walking down the cleanest streets in the world.

However, the world consists of more than 180 countries and you do not want to regret when you get there, right? Hence, the key is to narrow your choices. You can first check out which are the safest or the cleanest countries to visit.

Environmental Performance Index (EPI) 2019 Report

Good thing, though, is that the good folks at Yale University and Columbia University jointly conducted research that ranks countries from the cleanest to the dirtiest ones in the world.

The researchers collaborated with the World Economic Forum for this project. It aims to measure the cleanliness and environmental friendliness of countries across several variables.

The EPI index considers various criteria such as air quality, water, sanitation, forests, climate change, as well as other key factors. The EPI takes into account 50 percent of a country’s environmental health and the other 50 percent pertains to its ecosystem vitality.

One of the environmental metrics that affect a country’s EPI score is Air Quality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution has become one of the leading threats to public health. In fact, it has now become a global issue.

Another factor is Water and Sanitation wherein a country has access to clean water. A source of clean water is crucial for human development, the environment, and the country’s economy. Other determining factors of a country’s EPI also include the climate and energy issue, forests, fisheries, use of heavy metals, and more.

2019 Top 10 Cleanest Countries In The World

Based on the data collected in 2019, let us take a quick look at the top 10 cleanest countries in the world and their respective EPI ranking.

  1. Switzerland
  2. France
  3. Denmark
  4. Malta
  5. Sweden
  6. United Kingdom
  7. Luxembourg
  8. Austria
  9. Ireland
  10. Finland

Other countries that have high EPIs and therefore considered some of the cleanest places to travel include Iceland that scored 78.57. Spain scored 78.39, Germany got 78.37, Norway received 77.49, and Belgium got 77.38. Favorite destination Italy has a 76.96 EPI. New Zealand lands on 17th spot with 75.96. Netherlands received a 75.46 EPI while Israel scored 75.01, and Japan has 74.69 EPI.

The United States, meanwhile, sits at no. 27 in the 2019 EPI with 71.19. It registers strong scores on some issues, such as Water and Sanitation with 90.92 and Air Quality with 97.52. However, It has a weak performance on deforestation with 8.84 and GHG emissions with 45.81.

Countries With Low EPI Scores

For comparison, the countries that are at the bottom of 2019 EPI rankings include Nepal with an EPI score of 31.44. India is also one of the dirtiest countries in the world with an EPI of 30.57, along with the Democratic Republic of the Congo with 30.41, Bangladesh with 29.56, and Burundi with 27.43.

Apparently, low EPI scores show the lack of national sustainability as well as efforts to improving air quality, protecting biodiversity, and reducing GHG emissions.  Countries that have poor EPI scores could succumb to a public health crisis that requires immediate action.

So, now, we dig deeper into each of the top 10 cleanest countries in the world. Arguably, these nations are the most beautiful countries in the world, too.

1Switzerland

Switzerland

Switzerland gets the crown as 2019 cleanest country in the world with an impressive EPI of 87.42. It is known for its thick forests, wildlife, as well as safe and clean water. This explains why it bested 179 countries in the aspect of cleanliness.

This majestic nation is located in Western Europe, with Germany to the north, Italy to the south, France to the west, and Austria to the east. The country’s population is estimated at 8 million people. They speak either one of the country’s four main languages, i.e. German, French, Italian, and Romansh.

Notably, this thriving nation has one of the incredibly lowest crime rates in the world among all developed countries. Also, the country has an ideal climate. Although it has four seasons, Switzerland’s climate never gets too cold or too hot. Thus, it sees booming tourism all year round.

Switzerland is also home to the world’s most coveted luxury watches brands such as TAG Heuer, Tissot, and Rolex. The Swiss are also famous for their positively sinful, scrumptious chocolates.

In addition, they can be as innovative as they can get. The fact is Swiss chocolatiers managed to add edible gold to their chocolates.

Tourism

Switzerland is also known for its elaborate landscape and is one of the best tourist dreamlands, too. This cleanest place on Earth has more than 1,500 lakes and each is less than 10 miles away from another lake.

The Swiss economy is as well popular for being one of the most stable and thriving economies in the world. Lined by the Swiss Alps, it is definitely a beautiful country that you need to add in your list of go-to places on the planet.

Switzerland

Moreover, Switzerland offers a myriad of prime, breath-taking tourist spots to visit in one’s lifetime. These include The Matterhorn, Interlaken, Lucerne, Davos, Lake Thun, and Lake Geneva.

When in Switzerland, you should not miss to also experience the train journey to Jungfraujoch, the “Top of Europe”, in the beautiful Bernese Oberland. The Great Aletsch Glacier, known as the longest glacier in Europe, starts at Jungfraujoch.

2

France

France ranks as the second cleanest country in the world with an EPI score of 83.95. Found in Western Europe, it is the third largest country on the continent.

This rich country has a population of 62 million people. However, its large populace does not have a negative impact on the cleanliness of the nation’s environment.

France gets to be among the world’s most environment-friendly and tidiest countries. It received a high score on air quality, water sanitation, and fisheries.

Despite the fact that France is industrialized, 79 percent of its electricity depends on nuclear energy. This makes France the largest consumer of nuclear power in the whole world. That is why it has a low score on carbon dioxide emissions

Moreover, France has a total nominal GDP of $2.61 trillion, with a per capita GDP of $41,141. Thus, France is indeed the wealthiest country in Europe and the world’s fourth wealthiest nation.

Tourism

France is not just one of the cleanest nations, but it is also the no. 1 tourist destination in the world. Based on data gathered by the UN World Tourism Organization, it ranks first in the world tourism ranking. More than 83 million foreign tourists visit France each year.

The world’s most visited country has a total of 37 world heritage sites. It has a lovely climate, too. France is also known to have superb beaches, historic castles and museums, and grandiose gardens and parks.

France

If you are into arts, Paris is home to one of the largest and most visited museums in the world. It contains 35,000 pre-historic objects, such as Egyptian antiques, crown jewels, old paintings, and many more.

The top three most popular attractions in France include The Louvre Museum, the Eiffel Tower, and the Palace of Versailles. You can check out other must-see sites like the Côte d’Azur, Loire Valley Châteaux, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres, and Provence.

France encompasses an area of 551,000 sq. km., which is almost a fifth of the EU’s entire area.  France comes in a six-sided shape, which is why it is also called l’hexagone.

3Denmark

Denmark

Sitting at no. 3 as the cleanest country in the world is Denmark, with an EPI score of 81.60. Apparently, this country in the Nordic region emphasizes the use of renewable energy.

As of 2019, Denmark only has a total population of 5,754,356 people. It is the southernmost part of other Scandinavian nations that include Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

Denmark is not just one of the world’s cleanest countries. The country also sits at no. 2 in the list of the happiest countries in the world according to the survey by the Gallup World Poll.

Interestingly, it appears the Danes are arguably the most social people that walk this planet. This is the very reason that explains their happiness. Another Nordic country, Norway, tops the list while Switzerland ranks third.

Other than that, Denmark also holds another superlative. Statistics indicate that it is the least corrupt country in the world.

Tourism

Also, Denmark is a top-rated tourist destination for travelers. You will find Europe’s oldest functioning tower and observatory, Rundetaarn, here. Other best spots include the Tivoli Gardens, the second oldest amusement park in the world.

Denmark

Other amazing tourist attractions in the country include Nyhavn, the National Museum of Denmark, the National Gallery of Denmark, Christiansborg Palace, Frederiksborg Palace, and the famous Little Mermaid statue.

The Klitmoller, otherwise known as Cold Hawaii, in Scandinavia is known as one of the best beaches to surf on. Because of this, Denmark has also turned into a surfer’s country.

4Malta

Malta

Malta ranks fourth in the 2019 cleanest countries in the world with an EPI score of 80.90. The intensified efforts of the Maltese government to take care of the environment in recent years has paid off. It is now in the list of top 10 tidiest countries to visit.

It does not mean that it is precisely spotless, though. But most parts of the country have a high index of air quality and are kept clean.

It is interesting to know that Malta neither has forests or rivers across the country’s seven islands. It is mainly made of limestone and its hills stand less than 300 meters.

Do you also know that Malta is one of the world’s smallest nations? In spite of its size, it is densely populated with an estimate of 450,000 residents.

Tourism

The country’s tourism is continuously thriving. It is among the most visited tourist destinations in Europe, thanks to its elaborate and pristine beaches. In fact, the peak beach season in Malta lasts until the middle of the fall season.

Malta

The Maltese Islands, namely Malta, Gozo, and Comino, take pride of ancient history proven by the ruins of the oldest existing edifices today. Among these three islands, Gozo is the most flourishing destination.

The capital of Gozo known as Victoria is also called Rabat. It boasts the magnificent Cittadella, which dates back to the medieval era.

Visitors who look forward to a nice, relaxing weeklong stay will absolutely love the place’s picturesque landscape, quiet towns, and immaculate beaches.

Comino, meanwhile, is the smallest among the three islands. It remains virtually unoccupied. The Blue Lagoon serves as the island’s biggest attraction and from the looks of it, you won’t ever ask why.

5Sweden

Sweden

Sweden sits at fifth spot of the world’s cleanest countries in 2019 with an EPI score of 80.51. Some may even argue that it should be crowned the cleanest country in the world.

All Scandinavian countries have three common characteristics. They are clean, peaceful, and well-developed. Sweden is no different as it is consistently in the list of cleanest countries of the world over the years.

This Nordic country has a population of only 9.1 million people. The Swedish government gives importance to keep a cleaner environment by increasing its greenery. The country has clean air and water, thousands of acres of preserved forests, and majestic lakes.

It is also known for being a master in recycling, wherein it has set policies on recycling trash. The country even has the most efficient trash recycling system. It has to import trash from other countries to keep them functioning.

Apart from this, the country is naturally using renewable energy sources, thereby decreasing its CO2 emissions.

Tourism

Moreover, Sweden is the perfect choice for your next trip to Europe. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth you might get to visit one day. Sweden boasts of its garbage-free streets, minimal air pollution, and sanitary facilities wherever part of the country your feet will lead you to.

It is even dubbed as traveler’s paradise simply because of its rich history and diverse landscapes. If you are into outdoor adventure, Sweden is the go-to place.

Sweden

Tourists can explore a slew of Sweden’s best attractions. These include opulent The Royale Palace, Skansen, the Vasa Museum, Gamla Stan, and the world-famous Ice Hotel.

Mitsubishi Delica Star

When it comes to cars, showboating is the de facto language, which makes the ultra-humble Mitsubishi Delica Star a refreshing change of scenery. Don’t for one second underestimate this ride, though.

Thanks to Bring a Trailer, this 1993 Mitsubishi Delica Star comes packing with a few focused modifications that turn it into a serious overland adventure vehicle. Unfortunately, this is just a one-off model. Bring a Trailer is currently holding an auction for it, and the bid as of this writing is at $8,000.

The car comes with a modest 2.5-liter turbodiesel inline-four engine that’s hooked up to a five-speed manual transmission. That’s not new for any off-roader, obviously. But do note that this thing boasts a mid-engine layout. You get stubby front and rear overhangs as a result. That, in turn, should lend you approach and departure angles not common on front-engine units. Bonus: this also has a fantastic center of gravity as a result.

Using the base Mitsubishi Delica Star and its balanced layout, the current seller treated it as a blank canvas and just went bonkers. Up top, you’ll find a Smittybilt platform tent on Thule roof bars. Then move underneath and you’ll chance upon brush bars and Pro Comp shock at all four corners. On top of which, there are 15-inch wheels in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 rubber.

If you want something that’s not a Defender, FJ, or Bronco, this might be worth a look. Sadly, you’d have to outbid other interested customers to lock this one up your garage, but you who knows, you might be lucky?

Tempus Titan R E-Bike

Tempus is a newcomer in the electric bike field, but if it continues to make bikes as good as its Titan R model, its longevity in the business is practically guaranteed.

To distinguish itself from the e-bike manufacturer crowd, the Titan R takes styling cues from classic cafe racer motorcycles. While most e-bikes come accentuated with futuristic aesthetic, the flourish here harken back to classic, highly stylized motorcycles of several eras past.

Thee skateboard seat sells the whole vibe, too. There’s also a faux tank and knee indents, to boot. They’re super on-the-nose, let’s be fair, but also pretty cheeky in a way that you can’t help but adore the thing.

As for its powertrain, there’s a 1000-watt hub motor that comes a with pedal assist. Top speed is at 28 mph. The removable lithium-ion battery can have you hightailing for 45 miles on a single charge, also.

For the brakes, you’ll find hydraulic disc ones. That’s paired with 26 by 2.4-inch wheels, which is big enough to get over urban roadblocks and obstacles. The battery locks to the hardtail frame so you don’t have to worry about that thing when you’re not riding.

Tempus is positioning the Titan R as an e-bike for the masses, and even though that’s a pretty bold claim, we’d argue they just made that happen. It’s one of the most powerful offerings in the company’s stash, and is hitting Tempus’ catalog this year. If you fancy a robust and reliable cafe-inspired e-bike, this one’s worth looking into.

Top Duffel Bags For Men

A top-quality men’s travel duffel bag is an essential piece of kit If you have plans to head out on the road, take a weekend break or regularly find yourself on short business trips. They’re roomy enough to store all of your basics for traveling, but small enough to pack, grab and go without any fuss.

Wherever you’re planning to jet off to in the near future, a well-chosen travel duffel bag designed for men will serve you well on your travels. Whether it’s a certain style you’re looking for or a more practical item, you’ve landed in the right place as we’ll be taking a look at the best of the best of what’s out there when it comes to men’s travel duffels.

Before we get down to it and look at some great duffel bags, we feel it is worth highlighting to you some of the important aspects you should be considering and looking at when choosing a duffel bag. There is a lot more involved than just buying the one that meets your budget.

You need to think about how you want to carry it, what you want to use it for and the size you will need to accommodate everything you are planning on packing to take with you.

As there are so many different brands out there, it is good to note the duffel bag manufacturers who have a better reputation than others. That being said, you may still be able to find a real bargain that has not been produced by one of the bigger names in the duffel bag market.

Let’s look at each of these aspects in a bit more detail.

Carrying Options

Although you will find that most duffel bags follow the same template design, there are a number of different carrying options available. Many bags will have multiple carrying options to choose from, making those trips away all the more convenient.

Backpack straps – Similar to a traditional backpack, these types of bags can be carried on your back. These are great for long stretches of walking to a destination, especially when you need your hands free for more important things (such as navigating!)

Shoulder straps – Again, this kind of strap allows you to just sling the bag over your shoulder and forget about it, rather than relying on your hands. Ideal for the gym, or when you need to access it frequently whilst carrying.

Handles – As you’d imagine, this is the most traditional and universally popular carrying option for bags. Duffel bags will often consist of dual handles that have Velcro or some other kind of fastener that holds them together.

BUYING GUIDE & FAQ’S

What Kinds Of Duffel Bags Are There?

Thanks to a wide range of designers and brands each producing a variety of men’s duffel bags for activities such as traveling, the gym, and outdoor pursuits, there are now a number of different styles and types of bags to choose from, including:

Travel/Casual:

As the name suggests, these are for the most casual use and the type you should look for if you need an airline carry-on, or simply one to throw in the back of a car when you go away for the weekend. With so much choice in style, size, price, and color to suit a variety of needs, you’re sure to find what your travel requirements demand.

Gym/Sport:

These are not much different from other bags, other than they usually include a lot more waterproofing, particularly on the inside, and often have a separator or special compartment for damp clothes and shoes. Air holes feature heavily and the fabric is often breathable.

These are perfect for regular gym goers who want to keep their bag fresh, and for those involved in physical sporting activities.

Outdoor:

Duffel travel bags designed for outdoors specifically will have a higher quality and more durable exterior, often consisting of high density waxed canvas or leather. These are ideal for camping trips, or to carry all the necessary gear of your outdoor pursuits such as rock-climbing, skiing or hiking.

Waterproof:

There are various ways to describe waterproofing material because not every bag is created equal in this respect. Most bags are waterproofed to a certain extent, but if you are going to be visiting places where there is a high risk of heavy rainfall or prolonged water contact, you need to make sure you buy a suitably water-resistant bag.

Whether it’s an Amazon expedition, Monsoon season in India or simply a trip to the Everglades, a solid waterproof bag will have you covered.

What’s The Best Size To Choose?

The best duffel bag size you should choose will, of course, depend on your individual needs and preferences. If it is going to be accompanying you on a long 2-week trip, a small 20-liter bag is not really going to cut it. Whereas if you are only out of town for a night, you’re not going to need an over-sized 120-liter bag.

Think about your current and future needs, how much you will use it compared to the product price, what you’re using now and what’s lacking with it, and what you’re actually going to be putting in it. Also consider airline size restrictions for carry-on luggage, that is if you’re lucky enough to have lots of internal or international air travel on your agenda.

What are the Best Duffel Bag Brands?

As you will soon see from the following extensive list of the best travel duffel bags for men we’ve compiled to assist with your decision-making, there are hundreds of different bag manufacturers all offering something unique- much to the benefit of you, the buyer.

We have brought together a selection of travel duffels from the top brand names such as Oakley, Nike and Victorinox alongside specialists in the sector like Patagonia and North Face. You’ll also see some quality travel duffel choices from lesser known companies like Ulgoo and iBlue who have earned heaps of praise and a great reputation for their stylish, versatile bags.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at our pick of the best!

The Indestructible YETI LoadOut GoBox 30

YETI, known for its highly durable gear, comes out with the LoadOut GoBox 30 to prove its dominance in the rugged container and cargo world. The LoadOut GoBox 30 marks its first foray into buryl cargo boxes, a simple, bare-bones waterproof box that packs a punch.

It’s heavy, robust, and incredibly solid. It’ll also handle everything you throw at it. Beyond just strength, it’s also really secure and hermetic. The latches click shut with sophistication, and overall the box feels very well-made.

The interiors mimic the simplicity found outside, with only a removable tray, a center divider, and not much else. This was made for storing things in, anyway, so no need for bells and whistles that might increase clutter. Up top, you’ll find a Pack Attic deployable pouch for extra storage, big enough to accomodate a 15-inch laptop.

Further outside, you’ll find a handful of tie-down points to secure the box onto, say, the roof of a car or the deck of a boat. There are also two locking points that allow you to secure it shut. It’s not going to replace a safe, to be sure, but it does the job quite well.

The LoadOut GoBox 30 is a bit larger than most cargo boxes in the market right now. That’s great for all hoarders out there venturing into the backcountry or wilderness — can’t be too careful, right?

At $250, th box is certainly leaning toward the pricier end of the spectrum. Still, those who’ll need to haul fragile items along their trip might see this a great investment.

Top 12 Winter Gloves for Men in 2019

When it’s cold outside the last thing you probably feel like doing is moving from your place beside the fire, but sometimes there’s no choice. However, we’re here to save you from the peril of freezing cold hands and numb thumbs. We said thumbs…these are gloves we’re talking about, not pants.

If you’ve always made do with a cheap pair from the dollar-store you won’t have had the opportunity to appreciate the difference a decent pair of gloves can make. A high-quality glove won’t end up wet and soggy within a matter of seconds and will keep your fingers feeling toasty even when you’re surrounded by snow.

There are lots of reasons to brave icy temperatures, such as working in construction or in freezers and other cold conditions. Cold weather can be fun too though – the joy of flinging a snowball at an unsuspecting friend is hard to beat! Whether you’re preparing for cold weather to arrive in your state or you’re jetting off on a skiing vacation in the Rockies, a pair of good gloves is an essential every man should have.

If gloves aren’t something you’ve ever considered, you might find the market a bit of a minefield with all kinds of designs and features clamoring for attention. Never fear, as always Mens Gear is here to help you narrow down the field. We’ve put together a list of the top 12 winter gloves plus a few helpful pointers on gloves in general too.

We’re kicking off the list with a magnificent pair of gloves from Carhartt which have an impressive array of features. Starting with the outside you’ll find a tough polyurethane exterior which is coupled with a waterproof lining and a soft, 100% polyester lining. This lining includes special FastDry technology which has been designed to wick away sweat. There’s not much worse than a pair of sweaty hands stuck inside of a pair of heavy gloves so this is a feature which we’re giving the thumbs up.

These gloves are fairly warm but they’re pretty bulky too. This means although they’re fine for hiking, they don’t make fine handling movements particularly easy. The fleece cuff provides a comfortable fit, preventing unwanted breezes while a loop cuff clip ensures the gloves are snug.

There’s one extra feature we haven’t mentioned until now – the nose-wipe. Yes, you heard that right. We’ve all been there though… hands all gloved up, runny nose, what’s a guy to do? Trying to prevent a long line of snot covering your face isn’t easy. Enter the nose-wipe. This is a strip of material on the thumb that acts just like a tissue and will step in on those awkward occasions. The jury’s still out on whether we think this is a genius or revolting invention but we can’t deny that it’s clever.

If you’re wrestling with the dilemma of being able to use your iPhone and the desire to keep your hands warm, worry no more! Timberland has the solution with these nifty knit gloves that come with touchscreen technology. While the gloves look just like a regular pair of knit gloves, if you peer more closely at the fingertips you’ll see some clever patches. These allow accurate operation of your iPhone without exposing the rest of your hand to freezing temperatures.

Aside from the touchscreen fingertips, the rest of the glove is stylish – as you might expect from a prestigious brand such as Timberland. Made from a charcoal knit, it’s warm and snug with a textured palm which provides excellent grip. The only slight gripe is that there’s no way to adjust the size of the cuff and without any ribbing, it doesn’t always fit close to your wrist. However, the finger and palm fit beautifully and it’s a small grumble about what is otherwise a cleverly-designed set of gloves.

Well, it turns out that it’s not just Timberland who offer touchscreen technology as here come Wells Lamont offering exactly the same feature! However, these gloves are very different from the Timberland style and are designed to provide far more warmth in colder weather while still offering the touchscreen function. It’s just the thumb and the first finger which provide this facility but let’s face it, that’s all you’re going to need whether you’re WhatsApping the guys or scrolling through Twitter.

These gloves are ideal for keeping your hands warm while you’re working, and are suitable for a range of activities. This not only helps the touchscreen function but also makes it easy to use your hands as normal. Do you struggle with your armor chafing your hands? Do your fingers get cold when you strap on your suit of armor? The good news for all knights is that Under Armour have created a line of gloves just for you. In case you’re not a knight and just a regular guy, never fear – you can wear these gloves too. A lightweight but surprisingly snug pair of gloves, these can either be worn as a liner under heavier gloves or on their own when you just need a bit of extra warmth.

Although this pair is gray, these gloves are also available in black, dark green and a navy blue so if you’re wearing them on their own, there’s a pleasing array of colors. No-one says you can’t color-match if you’re wearing them as a liner too so if you like everything to coordinate, Under Armour offer the perfect option. This helps them to mold to the shape of your hand snugly, delivering a flawless fit.

Mountain Made specialize in designing sportswear which combines warmth and performance and with this pair of multi-purpose outdoor gloves, we think they’ve hit the mark. Warm and snug on our hands, they’ve also got a touch of Spandex and a dab of PVC rubber to provide stretch and grip. You’ll particularly notice this on the palms which provide great dexterity without diminishing sensation, with a multi-directional stretch. This allows you to wear these gloves while enjoying a range of activities including cycling, riding, driving and shooting, as well as also being suitable for general everyday use.

These are another pair of gloves which offer touchscreen technology – we’re beginning to think it’s everywhere now! – but they’re also lightweight and easy to wear. Heat-preserving technology helps to keep your hands warm while an anti-bacterial treatment ensures they never get stinky. If you decide to give them a swift wash the absorbent lining is quick-drying which also helps to keep odors away.

The unusual vertically-placed zip on the top of the gloves is one of the most striking features but it’s not just there to look good. Although it makes the gloves look smart yet sporty, the strong zipper helps to hold your gloves firmly in position and ensures a snug fit. Mountain Made provide a variety of dimensions for each size including finger length and palm circumference so you can check before ordering, which is handy. However, it’s worth knowing that the gloves tend to come up very snug so if in doubt, you might want to size up.

Carhartt are back again with another pair of gloves which will keep the cold out. With a polyester shell, these gauntlet-style gloves protect the hand and the wrist from the worst of the weather. Well-insulated and padded, the gloves are thick and insulated to provide a soft and comfortable fit while keeping hands and fingers warm when the temperatures plunge.

These gloves are intended to be multi-purpose so whether you’re shoveling snow, hiking in chilly temperatures or working in cold conditions, your hands will stay snug. Unlike some other designs, your hands won’t overheat thanks to the Fast Dry technology on the lining which wicks away any moisture and sweat. The exterior of the gloves is made from a combination of wear-resistant goatskin leather and polyester, providing durability and excellent grip. The controversial nose-wipe feature also makes a return – love it or hate it, you can’t deny it’s useful!

The wrists on these gloves are wide so they’re simple to slip on, no matter what you’re wearing. You won’t have to put up with any gaping though as they also feature a barrel-lock cinching closure. This enables you to pull the wrist as tightly closed as you like, keeping out any chilly air. Some reviewers said that the insulation at the tips of the fingers could be better but even so, it took a considerable length of time for any cold to start to creep in. With these gloves, there’s no excuse not to get out on the drive and start clearing away the snow!

If ever there were a pair of gloves to make you look twice, this design from Metog fits the bill. Are they fingerless? Or perhaps they’re mittens? They can’t seem to make up their mind. That’s OK by us as we think it’s pretty handy – excuse the pun! – to have a pair of gloves that ticks both boxes. Whether you’re planning on wiping out the opposition in a no-holds-barred snowball fight or just working in the yard, you can pick the style of glove you prefer.

Let’s start with the fingerless design. We love fingerless gloves as they keep our hands warm without taking away any of the manual dexterity. If you’ve ever tried a spot of DIY wearing big gloves, you’ll know exactly what we mean – trying to hold a nail wearing big gauntlets is a task we dare anyone to try! With fingerless gloves you can do all the fiddly work you need and of course, there’s no problem fitting in a bit of downtime with your phone either. No pesky glove fingers getting in the way!

Sadly, as much as we love our fingerless gloves, quite often they’re just not warm enough. While we love the convenience we’re also quite keen on avoiding frostbite in our fingertips too. When the temperatures plunge, or when you start to lose feeling in your fingers, it’s time to wrap those babies up by flapping over the mitten attachment. Your fingers will instantly bask in the warmth that only a mitten can bring. Have you ever tried doing up buttons with cold fingers? Our friends at Metog understand so they’ve opted for a Velcro attachment instead. Phew.

Aside from the funky fingerless/mitten carousel, there are some other great features on these gloves too. Inside you’ll discover a cozy Thinsulate lining that feels soft to the touch and adds real warmth. The design of the gloves is striking as a deer-leather palm complements the wool tweed. This isn’t just for good looks however as the leather is breathable and wear-resistant and offers great adhesion, providing an excellent grip. An elastic cuff completes the design, keeping out gusts of air and nasty cold breezes. Brrrrr!

Pros

Cons

  • cross-altWool exterior can leave gaps
  • cross-altSizing can be variable

If you love gadgets but you don’t like having cold hands, North Face have a solution that’s been tailor-made for you – their Etip Gloves. Designed as a winter glove the Etip is surprisingly sleek, not bulky like some of the others on our list. When you discover that it’s been designed with the use of smart-phones and other tech in mind, it all becomes clear. The slimline style allows you to retain full manual dexterity while still providing protection from the worst of the weather.

You’ll notice instantly that the gloves have an area of raised silicon bumps around the thumb and forefinger area. The reason for this is twofold – it helps you to grip your phone without dropping it, and also makes it easier to use your device accurately. Here at Mens Gear we know only too well the pain of fumbling with your phone in big gloves so we send our heartfelt thanks to the inventors over at North Face! Of course, these grippy areas also help you to hold onto ski-poles or ice-axes too.

However, there’s more to these gloves than just a few rubber bumps. A four-way stretch ensures that you’ll get a snug fit that’s comfortable too, also helped by what North Face call Radiametric Articulation™. We hadn’t heard of it either – it just means that your hands are held in a relaxed, natural position. Inside the gloves special Heatseeker™ insulation will keep those fingers toasty while on the outside a soft shell keeps out the wind and rain. Although not as chunky as some other gloves, the Etip are very warm but if you’re heading off to somewhere that’s really cold, they’re also suitable for layering up with a bulkier glove on top.

Pros

  • checkClever five-finger touchscreen compatibility
  • checkInsulated lining

  • checkCuff tab for easy removal
  • checkSilicon grip area

Cons

  • cross-altMore expensive than other gloves
  • cross-altMay not be warm enough in freezing temperatures

Our favorite non-knights in shining armor are back again with another pair of freaking awesome gloves. Part of their ColdGear range, these gloves are designed to be worn when the weather is really cold – in contrast to their AllSeason Gear for weather that’s in between. Beautifully slimline, you won’t feel like you’re holding a haystack at the end of each arm but you’ll still stay nice and cozy. This is thanks to the thermo-conductive coating on the fleece lining that retains all the heat you need.

On the outside there are some nifty touches too such as the AirVent panel which sits over the knuckles, increasing the stretch and ventilation as well as making the gloves more durable. The suede panel on the palm adds extra grip while the extended cuff provides greater protection. The gadget-lovers are well looked-after again here as there’s Tech Touch print on the fingers and thumb which allow phones and tablets to be used without exposing your digits to the cold. That’s what we call a true digital design! Groan…

A synthetic glove that’s made from a combination of materials, the Denali Tip offers both comfort and functionality. A UR-powered palm and five-finger touchscreen compatibility mean you can use your phone or tablet without taking the glove off. Just one glance and you’ll start to feel your fingers flexing with excitement at the chance to slide into such a cozy-looking glove! We’ll be honest, these aren’t the biggest, warmest or most extensive gloves you’ll ever find but when the weather is cold but not sub-zero, these are perfect.

Despite the soft style, the exterior of these gloves repels water even if they aren’t completely waterproof. However, the wind will be kept out very well and your hands will feel well-protected. BUYING GUIDE & FAQ’S

What are the main things to consider when buying winter gloves?

Buying winter gloves means balancing up several factors including the way the gloves feel, their appearance and the various qualities that you need.  Winter gloves need to protect your hands while still feeling comfortable – but exactly what things should you be considering?

Dexterity

If you’re planning on hurtling down a ski slope you probably don’t need to worry too much about whether your gloves are too bulky for fine motor tasks. However, if you need gloves to keep your hands warm while you work outside, dexterity and the ability to carry out fine motor activities will be a big consideration. Some gloves which are very warm are bulky too, so choose a design that offers the dexterity you need for your planned use.

Insulation

Winter gloves are made from many different materials and have differing degrees of insulation and linings. Mittens will tend to be warmer than gloves naturally, the type of insulation used in the glove can also be very significant. Polyester gloves coupled with a fleece lining tend to be among the most practical and warm gloves around.

Size

We’re not talking about the size of the fingers here, but how far the gloves extend down your arm. In general, winter gloves tend to be longer because simply stopping abruptly at the wrist would expose bare skin – that’s making us cold just thinking about it! If you’re going to be in extremely cold conditions or carrying out an activity which involves lots of moving around, consider getting gauntlet-style gloves. These extend down the arm and make sure that no bare skin is left exposed to the elements.

What’s the difference between winter gloves and regular gloves?

If you’ve already got a pair of gloves in your closet, you might be wondering whether there’s any point in purchasing an extra pair just for winter. Surely one pair of gloves is as good as another, right? Wrong. Winter gloves do more than just cover your hands – as you can see from the question above, there’s a long list of features that they might include.

In their most basic form, gloves simply cover the hand and it’s entirely possible that you might need gloves during the summer too. Whether it’s for added grip, to protect your skin from the sun or keep out a light breeze, it’s not just during the winter months that you might want to whip out your handwear. As you might expect though, the type of gloves that you might wear in the summer would be very different from a pair of winter gloves.

Regular gloves may just offer minimal protection but winter gloves go above and beyond. They insulate against the cold, offer warmth and are usually padded to provide an extra degree of protection. On the outside, winter gloves have to be waterproof as well as being resistant to the wind too. There’s no point wearing a pair of gloves in the snow, only for them to be dripping wet within a matter of minutes!

What are the main materials used in winter gloves?

Although it might sound easy, this is an almost impossible question to answer due to the vast array of gloves on the market today. Cast your eyes over our list below and you’ll soon see that there’s a wide variety of materials used in the manufacture of winter gloves. All of the materials have different qualities, and different price-points too. The gloves you choose will depend on your budget, as well as the intended use for your gloves.

Some of the most common materials used include:

  • Extremely durable and long-lasting, leather is a premium material that’s tough and strong.
  • Wool blend. Wool or knit gloves provide a lightweight and soft glove that’s easy to wear and economical too. A classic material, they’re often used with other materials to provide better insulation and waterproofing.
  • Deerskin leather. A very specific type of leather often used for gloves, deerskin leather is soft to the touch as well as being excellent at keeping the cold out. Deerskin is very comfortable and often used to accent other materials within a glove.
  • Polar fleece. A great alternative to leather, fleece is snug and warm and will give cold hands a real treat. Often used as a lining for gloves, when used on its own the gloves tend to be lighter in weight but surprisingly warm.
  • A type of material which isn’t just breathable and resists moisture, it’s also warm, comfortable and machine-washable too. It’s designed to trap air more effectively than other materials, boosting its warmth and insulation. Often paired with a polyester or synthetic exterior, Thinsulate is a material to look out for.
  • Although it’s not a natural fiber, polyester is an excellent choice for winter gloves because of its ability to repel water and keep wind out. Lightweight and economical, polyester exteriors are often paired with cozy linings to create gloves which are as comfortable as they are practical.

How to wash and dry winter gloves

If you want to make sure your winter gloves stay in prime condition, you’ll need to take good care of them. This means giving them a wash and dry from time to time. This isn’t as easy as it sounds as winter gloves are made from a variety of different materials so you’ll need to check the instructions closely to make sure they stay looking as good as new.

Although you should always go with what the instructions tell you, we can give you a few hints on the best ways to wash some of the most common materials:

  • Saddle-soap or other oil-based soaps can be used to clean the exterior of leather gloves. Use a microfiber cloth to polish them up once they’re dry and you’ll be impressed at how good they look.
  • Hand-wash the gloves gently in cool or warm water – you can use a small amount of dish soap. Don’t be tempted to wring out your gloves or stretch them as you’ll very easily pull them out of shape. Place the gloves flat and leave them to dry.
  • Cotton blends. Use a washing machine on the cool cycle – do not tumble-dry.
  • Waterproof polyester gloves. Use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol on the exterior – spray liberally all over. On the inside, baking soda can help to eliminate any unwanted odors.
  • Suede or specialist materials. Either rub with a damp cloth or if permitted, take to a dry cleaner.

Now you’re up to speed in what to look for in your perfect winter gloves, we think it’s time we introduced you to a few pairs. Without further delay, here’s the Mens Gear list of what we think are the top 12 winter gloves for men in 2018.

Time to fall in glove!

Well, that’s about it – our list of 12 top winter gloves has come and gone and it’s time for you to choose the glove you want to love. Whether you just want to stay warm while you’re at work and for when the time comes for shoveling snow, or whether you have a winter vacation planned, these gloves will do the trick. We think there are a great range of styles and options so whatever you want, there’s a glove to suit your budget and needs.
