The Mylo Driver Bag

Who says mushrooms are only good as food? Apparently, they are also made into your everyday carry item like the Mylo Driver Bag, which uses mushroom leather.

This bag uses leather grown from the root structure of mushrooms called mycelium. Its designer, Bolt Projects and Portland-based brand Chester Wallace, optimized the mycelium fabrication technology pioneered by Ecovative.

The company used a combination of Mycelium cells and a substrate of corn stalks and nutrients to create mushroom leather. In ten days, the combination resulted in an interconnected mass that can be shaped to any shape and size. This end product is the Myo leather, which shares the same suppleness and warm touch as animal leather.

The only difference is that it only takes days instead of years to make the Mylo leather because it has a controlled growth environment and process. Its development also doesn’t harm the environment. It’s unlike the production of animal and synthetic leather, which produces material waste and toxic chemicals, respectively.

Design-wise, the Mylo Driver bag has a unisex appearance. It uses canvas for its base and pockets, which has two internal and three external pockets. Meanwhile, its durable carry-all silhouette is hand-cut and sewn entirely from Mylo leather.

Princess X95 Superyacht

Princess Yachts’ latest, the X95, marks the debut of the company’s “X” class, developed in collaboration with naval architect Bernard Olesinski and Italian design house Pininfarina. This superyacht innovates Princess Yachts’ tried-and-tested quality in terms of craftsmanship, design, and technology. Furthermore, it pushes the class to a new “Superfly” category that reimagines the concept of “flybridge.”

What does that mean, exactly? Well, some yachts prioritize one element over others. Typically, that means other aspects end up getting compromised to highlight one particular strength. However, the Princess X95 blends them all together seamlessly. As a result, the yacht features extensive outdoor spaces but also clever segmentation of interior rooms and decks — the flybridge and main deck interior space, which cover almost the entire yacht, in effect creates the Super Flybridge, which is perhaps the most notable characteristic of the Princess X95.

In such a layout, you get 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than traditional yacht designs. In other words, it’s a crossover done right, if not perfectly. Prospective owners may even choose how they want to configure the spaces onboard. You can pick between a larger main saloon or a forward-facing master’s cabin that grants you a panoramic view.

Two MAN v12 diesel engines power the X95, giving it a top speed of 24-26 knots. You can fill the tank with up to 13,400 liters of fuel. There’s also a new hull, one of the elements Princess Yachts and Olesinski heavily collaborated on. It evolves the deep-V concept to provide 15% improved efficiency with outstanding stability.

Lightning Packs HoverGlide Backpack

Imagine you’re bungee jumping and the harness around your body swings you back up, going against gravity. That’s the mechanism behind the HoverGlide Backpack, deemed by its manufacturer, Lightning Packs, as the “world’s first ‘floating’ backpack.”

At first glance, the bag does look like it’s levitating with every movement the carrier makes. It appears to be floating while the user jumps, runs, climbs, or hikes.

This is the result when you have pulleys and bungee cords built within the bag’s structure. They cushion the downward pull that heavy backpacks make when they bounce. This results in less metabolic energy used while walking, running, or climbing since the bag glides fluidly up and down. It moves in rhythm with the carrier’s body movements.

The HoverGlide Backpack is the innovative idea of Lawrence Rome, a physiologist at the University of Pennsylvania.  He said his creation cuts the risk of back or spinal injury that comes from carrying a heavy load. This revolutionary pack uses Suspended Technology to reduce the stress of the weighted load, thus reducing cardiovascular strains and muscle strains on the back, neck, knees, and ankles.

Anyone can benefit from the backpack: students, climbers, hikers, the military, and even middle-aged people. It comes in four rugged styles ranging from 28 liters to 55 liters, with the 20-inch frame having the capacity to fit all three smaller packs (28-30 liters).

It offers a variety of pockets, sleeves, mesh webbing and other features for an organized interior and exterior load. This pack is made from lightweight and water-repellant fabric that has been military tested and proven for its durability under tough conditions.

Lexus LY 650 Luxury Yacht

Lexus has finally unveiled its first official yacht, the Lexus LY 650. It’s a 65-foot ship that wonderfully shows off the Japanese car company’s recently revisited “L-finesse” design theme, which debuted with the sport yacht concept that was detailed last year.

The Lexus LY 650 comes with three staterooms, three toilets, and six sleeping rooms. The design smudges the line between elegance and sleekness. That sentiment shows through the yacht‘s pronounced bow, deck accents, and accentuated aft hips. Lexus executive VP Shigeki Tomoyama said he wants to “present a dream-like vision of the luxury lifestyle; one where the Lexus Yacht expands the potential of Lexus mobility to the ocean.”

Thankfully, the LY 650 isn’t just about the looks. The ship comes with an IPS 1200 marine engine from Volvo, but you can opt for an additional Volvo IPS 1350 motor if need be. The IPS 2000 boasts a 12.8-litre, inline 6-cylinder turbo and supercharged engine that makes 789 bhp. On the other hand, the IPS 1350 pushes it further to 986 bhp. The ship has a fuel capacity of 3,785 liters, a water capacity of 852 liters, and a holding tank capacity of 643 liters.

Wisconsin-based Marquis-Larson Boat Group is poised to construct, sell, and service the vessel when it goes into production next year. The first completed Lexus LY 650 is expected to come in the second half of 2019. A global debut is scheduled shortly thereafter. Finer details like pricing and other specifications will be announced at a later date, so make sure to check back with Men’s Gear as we learn more.

Arctic Fox Igloos

Bask in the beauty of the Northern Lights and marvel in the exquisiteness of the night sky when you book a stay in the Arctic Fox Igloos, in Ranua, Finland. This accommodation is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.

This hotel is on the shores of Lake Ranuanjärvi, away from pollution and city lights. It takes its name from an old Finnish folklore about how the tail of the arctic fox creates the spark in the night sky. This spark is believed to be the Aurora Borealis.

This luxurious glass Igloo provides the best view of this phenomenon at night. The room gives an unobstructed view of the northern skies as well as the serene lakeside scenery.

Meanwhile, each living space has its own private sauna and a bathroom set in the wood-walled area of the Igloo. There is also a kitchenette equipped with dining essentials. These include a table for two, a microwave oven, electric water boiler, refrigerator/minibar, and a coffee maker.

Despite its cold surroundings, the Igloo provides guests comfort with its built-in insulation system. The room maintains its warmth from the heating system integrated into the glass panels in the living space and in the kitchenette. This prevents snow and frost to form on the glass surface.

A stay in the Arctic Fox Igloos also means great adventures on the icy outdoors, including a snowmobile safari and a private visit to Santa Claus in his secret cabin in the wilderness.

Homitt Soft Cooler

There are plenty of reasons why you should have a cooler at the ready. One, it’ll come in handy at tailgate parties. Two, you’ll have a stockpile of cold drinks during camping trips. Three, it’ll be perfect for solo travels or spontaneous road trips. Four, it’ll save you trips to the refrigerator during mini BBQs, and so forth. That’s why you should really consider the Homitt soft cooler.

Apart from having a design that’s a huge step-up over the more bland and conventional cooler choices out there, it can chill up to 30 of your favorite drinks. Its cooling powers is courtesy of the closed cell insulation system that’s three layers deep and leak-proof, with high-density foam for good measure.

Homitt’s wants to make it easier for people to lug this baby around. As such, it included padded detachable shoulder straps and two side handle straps. This lets you pick the cooler up (for light loads) or grab the side handles (for heavier ones) hassle-free.

The exterior is water and sweat resistant thanks to the TPU coating. On the other hand, the interior features an antimicrobial liner that prevents mold and mildew. Just don’t put sharp things inside to avoid rupturing the special protective materials. The cooler sports features an airtight zipper with a sealing process that ties into the overall waterproof design. It also lets hot air out to keep the drinks inside cool as long as possible.

There are also four plastic D rings near the bottom of the cooler, which allows you to tie it down for better stability — should be useful when travelling along bumpy roads.

The best part? It won’t burn a hole in your pocket — this thing is just $106 on Amazon.

Tecnomar Evo 120 Ice White Edition

This 120-foot oceanic beauty, Tecnomar’s latest, is an aluminum-made yacht that blends performance, style, and incredible engineering, to create one of the most striking marvels modern naval architecture has ever seen. Meet the Tecnomar Evo 120.

You might have heard of Tecnomar before. They’re an Italian custom yacht builder that finds a “balance between the elegance of the best Italian nautical tradition, use of technologies, and highly innovative materials.” As such, the Evo 120 is a complete evocation of those principles, with its beautiful complex hull featuring intricate compound curves and niches made from aluminium.

Looks are only half the battle. Thankfully, this yacht doesn’t pull its punches in terms of performance. The main engine of the Evo 120 Ice can output up to 2x 1939kw and soars at a top speed of 26 knots — considered the limit for comfortable refined cruising.

Inside, you’ll find two smaller sliding doors on either side of a central external wet bar. The bathing platform coaxes guests into a glamorous space with twin curved low riser staircases leading to the aft cockpit. The platform’s sides come in a gorgeous teak to match the deck.

Up top, the sun deck boasts an infinity pool in addition to port and starboard covered relaxation areas. The main saloon itself has picture windows, with fantastic views that make up for the lack of a functioning balcony. There’ll be plenty of other things to look at, though. Like the four backlit Carrara marble panels that Tecnomar handpicked to keep up with Roman tradition.

The Evo 120 has already been sold to clients in Asia, and is expected to set sail pretty soon. Tecnomar says max guest accomodation is between nine to 11 people, in addition to a maximum of five crew members.

Luca Vallebona Pentagramma Superyacht

Italian naval architect Luca Vallebona calls his new concept the “Pentagramma.” It’s an 82-meter superyacht that effortlessly blurts the line between indoor and outdoor living. It features moving roof panels, predominant use of glass, and a precise layout that maximizes spatial innovation.

Vallebona’s yacht concept boasts a low volume and low profile. The exterior dips very low and shows off the main element of construction. That’s of course the steel hull and the aluminum/glass superstructure. Vallebona combined modular glass panels and backlit brass inserts — an homage to older nautical traditions.

Sunning decks bookend the 269-foot yacht in terms of amenities. That’s topped with a full-beam swimming pool on the front, to boot. The main deck has high ceilings, an apartment with two balconies, and four guest rooms. But perhaps the most striking element here is the central courtyard. It has two jobs. First, it protect guests from the sun without sacrificing the open air feeling. Second, it provides them easier access via a hidden hinged deck door that’s connected directly to the cabins.

In developing the Pentagramma concept, Vallebona firmly believed glass alone wouldn’t be enough to create a connection with the outdoors. As a result, he tirelessly broke down the barriers that hinder traffic between indoor and outdoor spaces. The courtyard is a prime example of this sensibility. Inasmuch as the hidden hinged deck allows them easier access to the aft deck, its more important function is to remove the spatial limits that separate the person from the sea.

T’spin Titanium Travel Multi Tool

A multi tool is a must-have for any traveler venturing out into faraway places. You never know what problems you might run into out there. Problem is, most multi tools aren’t robust enough to withstand the challenges of travelling. What’s more, you have to shell out a premium if you want a robust option.

Thus comes the T’spin Titanium Travel Tool, designed for travelers, by travelers. Even in such a tiny frame it manages to congest several essential tools not commonly found in other designs. It mushes them together in a fun and Every Day Carry-friendly package built from premium materials.

The T’spin comes with two slots for your SIM cards. For good measure, you also get a SIM eject tool. No need to prick your phone with the nearest sharp object you manage to get a hold of. Also, this is pretty convenient since who the heck carries a SIM eject tool?

It even comes with a built-in notch where you can slide your phone into to prop it up and return to your most recent Netflix binge.

Then when it’s time to get moving, the T’spin is designed in such a way that you can wrap your headphones, USB cables, or other wires around the frame to prevent it from tangling up inside your luggage.

On the edge you’ll find a small protrusion (mini screwdriver), and near the edge of the frame you’ll find a gaping hole (bottle opener). There’s also a carabiner clip off to the side you can attach it as a keychain or latch it onto the pull tab of your bag’s zipper for easy access. Oh, and you might be wondering why it’s called the T’spin, emphasis on “spin.” Well, the whole thing is actually a fidget spinner as well.

The company behind T’spin is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for production. A pledge of $28 will net you one unit in December if all goes according to plan.
