The 2020 Toyota GR Supra Makes Its World Debut in Detroit

The Supra Returns

It’s been 21 years since the last Supra. Toyota had a unique FT-1 Concept five years ago. Today, Toyota officially revealed its new sports car. The model debuts with more buzz around it than ever before. The new GR Supra is well worth the wait and the hype. It’s the first Toyota GAZOO Racing global car.

The car is the fastest Toyota-badged vehicle to date with a 0 to 60 time of just 4.1 seconds. It has a limited top speed of 155 mph. It has a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine that makes 335 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. The engine connects up to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Its low center of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution should help make it a true performer on a racetrack or twisty road. It has double-strut spring front suspension up front and multi-link suspension in the rear, standard 19-inch wheels with Micheline Pilot Super Sport tires, and Brembo brakes.

Unique for the Supra is the Adaptive Variable Suspension that’s standard. The car comes with a Normal driving mode and a Sport driving mode. That should help you select the way you want your Supra to perform for any given road.

What Kinds of Features?

In addition to the drive modes and all the things listed above, the car gets keyless smart entry, dual automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power folding mirrors, and plenty of safety features like emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and forward collision warning.

The car gets a 6.5-inch display standard and an 8.8-inch display in the Premium trim level with a rotary-style controller. It has wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and Supra Connect telematics services.

The Supra will come with a starting price of $49,990. Toyota will also build 1500 versions of the Launch Edition for the U.S. market and it will start at $55,250. The Launch Edition features exclusive aesthetic touches that set them apart from the standard models. This special edition version of the car will be highly sought after.

Another Supra Leak With Images and Possible Price

No Supra Secrets

Toyota will officially debut the Supra at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but there might be nothing left to discuss at that point.

According to new information via SupraMKV, the price of the new Supra will start at $49,990 for the base model. The next trim level up is called Premium, and it will have a price starting at $53,990. The trim level after that is the Launch Edition. It will start at $55,250.

Of course, all of these prices have not been confirmed by Toyota, so there’s a chance that they could be incorrect. SupraMKV also leaked a couple new images of the whole car in all its sporty glory.

All of the trim levels have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. The Launch Edition is the pre-order version of the car, according to Jalopnik. The site says the model is based on the Premium version of the car with a few additional aesthetic changes.

The starting price of the Supra sounds very reasonable when you look around the industry at other sporty coupes. If the prices are correct, we could see most potential buyers being pleased with it.

While it’s nice to keep getting all of these leaks on the Supra, I almost wish people would be able to keep some of it to themselves. There won’t be much for Toyota to reveal in Detroit. With that said, I’m going to keep reporting on the leaks because, well, the Supra is awesome, and I want to know more about it. I’m looking forward to the official reveal.

Toyota Teases the Supra One Last Time, Maybe

Tease Much, Toyota?

The 2020 Toyota Supra will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 14 at 9:40 am EST. Toyota couldn’t help itself, though. It had to tease its super hyped up sports car one last time before the official reveal. The company posted the image above to its media site with a short message about the upcoming reveal.

The company also provided a link where you can watch a live stream of the reveal. This link will allow journalists and other interested parties partake in the debut of the model without actually being at the show.

Toyota’s new Supra is one of the most hyped up vehicle reveals in a long, long time. The company has just exacerbated the buzz around the car by slowly letting information and teaser shots trickle out. Frankly, it’s been a little ridiculous.

However, it’s nice to see that the company has a sense of humor about its new sports car and all the buzz it has around it. They had a somewhat silly line in their latest teaser that said simply, “We promise, this is the last teaser* … *subject to change.”

That makes me think Toyota might just do something else one last time. At this point, I’m fine with that. It doesn’t matter what else the company teases or hints at, the Supra is coming on Januar 14, and I’ll be ready to check it out when it comes.

2018 Toyota Century

At first sight, you might mistake it for a Bentley or even a Rolls Royce, but the ultra-luxurious sedan you see here is neither of those. Boasting a fresh redesign for the first time in the last 21 years, the 2018 Toyota Century is a gorgeous display of craftsmanship worthy of a Japanese emperor.

The elegant saloon sports a new Kamui black paintwork–a seven-layer clear coating job which is sanded and then polished for an impeccable mirror finish that’s free of any dullness or cloudiness.

Maintaining its timeless charm, the third-generation Century sports stronger lines throughout with a bolder front-end highlighted by a large grille adorned with a phoenix emblem that takes a whopping six-week period to be hand-engraved.

Inside, the all-important occupants can enjoy more room and luxurious comfort with such amenities as power leg rests, seat massage functions, wood trims & exclusive fabrics, and an 11.6-in central entertainment display connected to a 20-speaker (12-channel amp) advanced audio system.

As for power, the monumental vehicle draws it from a 5.0L V8 425-hp hybrid engine that’s said to deliver a quiet, smooth ride helped in part by an electronically-controlled air suspension and active noise cancellation. The only bad news? The new Toyota Century is exclusively available on the Japanese market.

Toyota says it will make a hypercar for the streets

For those enamored with Toyota’s Le Mans-winning TS050 Hybrid race car, good news: it’s going to make production in one form or another. Toyota says that the development of the TS050’s road-going version is already underway.

“We started this project because we believe that creating a super sports car that delivers the same appeal as the TS050 Hybrid greatly adds to Toyota’s involvement in WEC,” said Shigeki Tomoyama, president of Toyota’s motorsport arm Gazoo Racing. “And at some point in the near future, customers will have a chance to get behind the wheel of this incredible machine and experience its astonishing power and driving performance.”

So far, the nearest equivalent to the TS050’s road car version is the GR Super Sport concept, which was shown in January. Back then, Tomoyama hinted that a road car would be on its way. He described it as “a sports car that will more directly convey the TS050’s appeal, while offering easier handling … Although it will be some time before you all have the opportunity to get behind the wheel, I hope that the GR Super Sport Concept will give you a taste of what we aim to achieve with our next-generation sports cars.”

The concept was displayed at Gazoo Racing’s Le Mans set up during the endurance race. The GR Super Sport has the same 1,000-horsepower twin-turbo V6 hybrid drivetrain as the TS050 Hybrid, and it shares much of the same hardware as the race version. The eventual road-going car would easily be the maddest Toyota with license plates.
