Here’s a Look at the Porsche Taycan’s Interior

The Electric Porsche’s Cabin Is Gorgeous

The Porsche Taycan is the company’s first all-electric car, and it will be an impressive machine by all accounts. The company will reveal the car in full on September 4 of this year. That’s not far away, and the company has been teasing the car recently to great fanfare. The most recent teaser sent out were some shots of the car’s interior.

Technology Everywhere

You might expect the cabin of the car to be pretty tech-savvy, but there’s even more than we thought. The cabin is completely full of screens and advanced technology. There are four different screens on the dash and center console, including a digital instrument cluster. The passenger gets their own touchscreen.

The digital instrument cluster is a massive 16.8-inch curved display that uses real glass with a vapor-deposited, polarizing filter. This makes the cluster anti-reflective. By doing this Porsche could get rid of the unsightly cowl over the cluster that so many cars have. To either side of the instrument cluster are some touch buttons for basic controls like the lights and driving settings.

The main, central infotainment screen measures 10.9 inches. It provides access to Porsche’s user interface and gives you access to apps, navigation, phone connections, media, comfort settings, and Porsche Connect. Below this screen is another with haptic feedback. It’s an 8.4-inch screen used for the climate controls and offers a handwriting area. This means you can write in an address you want the navigation system to use.

The screen in front of the passenger is for just the passenger. It won’t even turn on if the driver is the only one in the car. TechCrunch reported that Porsche is playing with the idea of having it stream video, but right now it’s just for making adjustments to settings that impact the passenger.

Minimalistic Interior

The overall design of the cabin is minimalist. Porsche stayed true to its roots for the most part. The lines of the interior are simple and actually look considerably similar to the 911. This is no surprise. Why mess with a good thing? The 911’s interior is handsome and recognizable, and it makes sense for the Taycan to follow suit.

When it comes to interior materials and colors, you can expect some of the best. Porsche will have wood trim, matte carbon, aluminum, fabric, and leather in it. You can get a leather-free version if you’d like. The car also comes with your choice of three color schemes: black-lime beige, blackberry, Atacama beige, and Meranti brown.

The Taycan’s interior lives up to the hype of the overall car for us. With the interior looking so good, we can’t wait for the rest of the car to be revealed in September.

2019 Porsche Taycan Nearing Production Phase

Porsche Taycan In Final Testing Phase Before September Reveal

The Porsche Taycan has rather quietly, become on of the most anticipated cars to come out of Stuttgart in a long time. The fully-electric car has the potential to be precedence-setting, both within the company itself as well as the broader automotive spectrum. When it was first unveiled as the Porsche Mission E back in 2015, little details were given, and its silhouette has evolved drastically since officially becoming known as the Taycan in 2018.

Taking place over multiple countries and continents, the Taycan’s world tour has hardly been a vacation for the car or Porsche engineers. The Taycan has undergone rigorous testing in the highest extremes of our planet’s environment, being put through a gauntlet of trials in temperatures ranging from -35 to +50 degrees Celsius.

Thorough considerations are being given to all of the Taycan’s metrics, from its driving dynamics to the performance of its batteries. Once the final testing phase is completed, Porsche states that the Taycan will have gone through well over 100,000 charging cycles using the full range of compatible charging options.

In spite of such grueling conditions, Porsche is buoyed by its findings. In an official press release, Stefan Weckbach (Head of BEV at Porsche) noted that several millions of real-world miles have been recorded as part of these tests.

“After carrying out computer simulations and comprehensive bench tests early on, we have now reached the final phase of this demanding testing programme. Before the Taycan is launched on the market at the end of the year, we will have covered approximately six million kilometers across the globe. We are already very happy with the current status of the vehicles. The Taycan is going to be a true Porsche.” he elaborated.

In a future that most automotive manufactures anticipate will be dominated by EVs, the Taycan is Porsche’s first real statement for that cause. Though this is a very forward thinking approach, Porsche fans can be appeased by the company’s commitment to maintain its core values and respect for heritage. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Porsche executive board proclaims “Even with solely battery-powered sports cars, Porsche is remaining true to its philosophy and offering our customers the sportiest and technologically most sophisticated model in this market segment.”

Porsche Taycan GT3 Rendering Looks Awesome

Hopefully, Porsche Pays Attention

The Porsche Taycan will come to the market as one of the company’s most highly-anticipated models ever. It’s an important car, too. It has a fully electric powertrain and the rumors say 600 hp. It will have a range of around 310 miles and can charge up to 248 miles worth of its battery in just 15 minutes.

According to Autoweek, its 0-60 mph time should be 3.5 seconds and 124 mph should come in a quick 14 seconds. Not good enough? What about a GT3 version? A new rendering from Porsche Taycan EV Forum shows what the model could look like. It’s stunning, and if Porsche is paying attention it should take note.

Will There be a Taycan GT3?

The Taycan will debut later this year, and when it does Porsche will have three versions of the vehicle. The Taycan, Taycan 4S, and Taycan Turbo. Because the vehicle is a fully electric machine and therefore can’t have turbos, we’re not really sure why Porsche will call one of the versions the Turbo.

The Turbo designation will likely just be for the higher-performance model. However, it seems that Porsche could have just come up with a different name, one that would have made sense. Anyway, the Taycan should be a riot on the road with that kind of horsepower, and it will show what Porsche plans to do as cars transition away from fossil fuels.

With all that said, I sincerely hope the company chooses to make a GT3 version of the Taycan, and when that happens, I hope it looks as good as the rendering shown above. The model gets a revised front end with a new splitter, front fascia, and grille. The rear has a big wing on it. It looks fantastic, and with the interest in this model Porsche should consider something like it.

Porsche Taycan

Top-notch craftsmen from Porsche are always expected to deliver amazing automobiles that awaken the desires of gearheads everywhere. The marque recently joined other European car brands in a bid to invest and promote electromobility in the coming years. The Porsche Taycan adds to the influx of electric-driven concepts from various manufacturers with their cutting-edge designs and features.

The German automaker takes the veil off of its “Mission E” concept. Additionally, the brand now calls it the Taycan. According to the German brand, the name means “lively young horse.” We think it fits the idea of promoting eco-friendly technology for its future vehicles.

The battery-powered concept sports car will apparently rely on two permanently excited synchronous (PSM) motors. Each one with an output rated at 600 horsepower. Porsche claims that its advanced system can push the vehicle a standstill to 62mph in just less than 3.5 seconds. Likewise, it can go from zero to 125mph within 12 seconds. Aside from the impressive power it potentially delivers, a full charge can offer more than 310 miles of range.

Porsche went for the complete package and plans to offer the Taycan along with an innovative charging system. Once deployed or installed in the owner’s residence, these 800-volt chargers can reportedly supply enough power for at least 250 miles with a 25-minute charge. Technology like this is already shaping up to become reality in the near future as the world eventually adopts electric vehicles over conventional fuel-powered transports.

Porsche Taycan Specs Revealed

With Porsche steeping up their focus on electric technology, they finally released details regarding the new electric supercar, the Taycan, and they’re impressive.

It’s a dual-motor setup between the axles, together producing more than 600 horsepower or 440kW(!),

We opted for a permanently excited synchronous motor(PSM) in the TaycanThey combine a high energy density with strong sustained performance and maximum efficiency.”  – Heiko Mayer, Porsche drive unit project leader

The 800-volt setup produces a 500km range on a single charge, with a 0-60 time of fewer than 3.5 seconds. There are 100 prototypes available and the synchronous motors have been tested in their LeMans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid.

The most intriguing part is the packaging of the batteries itself. Right now, that’s the hindering part of an electric car due to the weight and the amount required to power a car.

They placed it near the floor so that it has a low center of gravity with a balance of keeping weight low, optimal temperatures met, and safety in mind. Each cell has 4 volts and 400 cell pack to power the four wheels. It can fast-charge 400 km range in about 15 minutes (impressive!).

They’ll be using the Taycan as proving grounds for battery technology and monitoring the performance and if any degradation happens.

If you’re worried about charging, Porsche is working with other car manufacturers to have standardized fast-charging stations in Europe, having a station reachable within 100-150 km. The future is here and the Taycan will spearhead the way to a greener future!

2020 Porsche Mission E: All-Electric Porsche Called “Taycan”

The Mission E’s newly adopted name – “Taycan” (pronounced: tie-con) – translated from German roughly means “lively young horse”, and is a tribute to Porsche’s historic crest.

The new all-electric stable mate will be in production next year and is expected to go on sale in late 2019. The aforementioned was all announced at the ‘70 Years of Porsche Sports Cars’ ceremony, which took place on June 8, 2018.

The Taycan has certainly evolved since Porsche first unveiled the Mission E concept back in 2015 – most notably in its design cues. Morphing from a sleek sedan silhouette to what is now more of a sporty crossover fastback design, the Taycan still remains what it was set out to be from the beginning.

“Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom,” stated Oliver Blume, Porsche AG chief when describing the goal of the vehicle.

With that said, the Taycan will be the amalgamation of Mr. Blume’s message. While limited specification information is available for the car, here’s what we do know.

Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept, which the Taycan is based on

Engine and Performance

The Taycan will have 2 electric motors powering the car with a combined output of over 600-horsepower. The rear motor will output the majority of the power, making the Taycan drive more like a rear-biased car. Porsche has indicated that the Taycan should be capable of 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less and have a top speed of approximately 155 mph.

Braking will also be assisted with permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. Two performance modes – or in this case, what is essentially a two-speed gearbox – are available to maximize driving efficiency in either city or highway driving scenarios.

Range and Charging

Porsche claims that the vehicle’s maximum range on a single full charge will be around 500 km or 310 miles. Real-world mileage will ultimately vary based on driving conditions, but Porsche has a history of understating performance figures in lieu of the risk of underachieving.

The Taycan can be charged up to 80% ( or the equivalent of a 400 km boost) in 15 minutes with an 800-volt charger.

Design

As mentioned earlier, the Taycan has now taken the form of a crossover vehicle, so we can expect it to be a 5-door-wagon with a raised ride height.

Porsche AG chief designer Michael Mauer said of the Mission E Cross Turismo, which the Taycan is based on, “The key for the Panamera Sport Turismo was versatility. In the case of the Mission E Cross Turismo, the focus was more on this combination of different vehicle characteristics. Take this car in the morning to the meeting in the city, and in the evening, you go to your chalet in the Swiss mountains.”

Supercars.net will be providing news updates on the Porsche Taycan as they become available.
