Folks who picture the Red Bull car as a chopped-up Mini carrying a giant can are in for a surprise. The company that made the drink you mixed with vodka in college has taken a seat at the table of hypercar manufacturers by leveraging the lessons learned from nearly 20 years of Formula One racing. Called RB17, the first Red Bull model made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with 1,200 horsepower.
Adrian Newey, the Red Bull Formula One team’s chief technical officer, played a significant role in developing the RB17. The car looks like it was shaped by the wind: It’s low, wide, and it wouldn’t look out of place on the starting grid of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The technical details released by the company are vague; all we know is that it’s powered by a mid-mounted, naturally-aspirated V10 engine that has a 15,000-rpm redline. The engine spins the rear wheels via a carbon fiber transmission, and the RB17 is built around a carbon fiber monocoque.
The 10-cylinder’s output becomes even more impressive when you consider that the RB17 weighs under 2,000 pounds. Put another way, it’s over 400 pounds lighter than a Mazda MX-5 Miata yet it has more than six times the power. Performance specifications aren’t available yet, but Red Bull promises that its first hypercar posts lap times on par with a Formula One car and has a top speed of over 217 mph.
Red Bull will build 50 units of the RB17, though pricing hasn’t been announced. An earlier report claims each car costs £5 million, which represents approximately $6.4 million at the current conversion rate and allegedly includes maintenance. The brand notes every example will be unique because buyers will be invited to customize numerous details including the paint color, the upholstery, and the interior materials. Owners will also have the opportunity to participate in events such as RB17-only track days on well-known circuits all over the world.

For one, the Mustang GTD competing in the Festival of Speed is showing off a new paint color called “Indulgent Blue.” It’s just one of the many “Extended Color Palette” choices that Ford is touting as an option for the GTD this week. The options are nearly endless, as Ford says the Extended Color Palette consists of thousands of colors (there are only six standard paints) you can choose from. And here you thought Porsche’s Paint-To-Sample (PTS) catalog was deep. In all fairness to Porsche, though, the Sonderwunsch program is still second-to-none when it comes to deep personalization of every part of the car.
How you choose the color is rather simple. Those who are lucky enough to buy one will be able to share an example of their desired color with the Mustang GTD Concierge team. From there, the team will do its best to match that color from a catalog of shades and hues. Considering the “thousands” of colors in this catalog, we have a feeling that Ford will be able to color-match anything you might want.
But of course, you can take this one step further. Ford is offering an “Exclusive Extended Color Palette Lock-Out Option” that will ensure your GTD will be the only one ever painted in the color of your choosing. It seems highly unlikely that someone will end up with the same color as you with thousands of shades to choose from, but Ford’s offering a way to make sure your GTD is a true one-of-one when it comes to the paint.
Pricing for these highly-exclusive paint options wasn’t made available, but you can trust that it’ll be an exorbitant add-on for the Extended Color Palette and even more ludicrous for the lock-out option. All this, on top of a base price that Ford suggests will start around $300,000.
You’ll be able to watch the GTD storm up the hill in the Batch 6A class of cars this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it will run alongside modern supercars. Ford says that it will have even more GTD news come Monterey Car Week in August, too.

The shifting in the lineups coming out of Crewe continues with the reveal of the Bentley Continental GT Mulliner. The English luxury maker introduced the most recent GT Mulliner two years ago when there were still a 626-horsepower standard W12 and a 650-horsepower GT Speed. With the GT Speed now the only W12, the introduction of the indulgent Azure trim “for those prioritizing wellbeing and on-board comfort,” and the arrival of the coming V8-powered S models, the new Mulliner steps in at the head of the pack. Starting from the bottom, the current Continental Range is the V8, Azure, S, Speed, and Mulliner.
What does a buyer get with the flagship Conti? The GT Speed chassis dressed in Mulliner jewelry and coachwork. The 6.0-liter W12 makes 650 horses and 664 pounds of twist, clocking 3.5 seconds from standstill to 60 miles per hour, acceleration unwilling to relent until 208 miles per hour. Dynamism at less furious speeds benefits from adaptive dampers, an electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle, all-wheel steering, and brake-based torque vectoring.
The cosmetic package is effectively handed down from the previous version, which we can’t find fault with. The double diamond matrix grille stands proud up front, wearing either bright chrome or the Mulliner Blackline Specification gloss black. The are also specific 22-inch Mulliner wheels, satin silver mirror caps shrouding Mulliner welcome lamps, and illuminated treadplates.
The interior picks up unique three-way colorways that rearrange the way primary, secondary, and tertiary colors are split throughout the cabin. Mulliner offers eight standard combinations all lashed up with diamond quilting, paired with 88 choices in Piano wood veneers and heaps of thread options for the contrast and accent stitching. Gauges in the digital instrument cluster have been designed with a technical finish to go along with the diamond milling on the center console. Even the occupants’ feet get treated to floor mats edged in complementary piping. Overhead, roofs without the panoramic glass get trimmed with indented hide, roofs with the glass top get smooth hides.

We have seen the new Maserati Halo Car being driven hard during testing on the track, after that, this Italian supercar wearing the famous trident was taken into the snow for cold-weather testing, and while no customer has received their Maserati MC20 yet, the car is finally finished and will make her official UK debut at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed where none other than GT1 world champion in the MC12 and Maserati’s official test driver, Andrea Bertolini, will take a production version of the MC20 onto the iconic 1.16-mile hill climb course at Goodwood, over the four days of the Festival of Speed, visitors will be able to enjoy this new car twice a day in action on the hill climb.

Finally, we are able to visit the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed again this year after the 2020 edition was canceled for obvious reasons, between June 8 and June 11 we’ll be able to admire some of the world’s most impressive supercars and hypercars, both as a static display, and in high-speed action on the impressive ‘hill climb’ session, and the best part perhaps … not all of the cars you can admire at the FoS are street legal.

Ever since they showed the ST1 at the Goodwood FoS in 2015, Danish car builder Zenvo hasn’t missed an edition, so for this 2021 edition they are bringing the thunder from Denmark once again, not one, not two … but three different Zenvo will be shown at this year’s FoS, and while two will probably be just there for show, one of the limited edition TSR-S hypercars will race on the legendary Goodwood Hill with Zenvo’s own production manager, Alberto Solera, at the wheel.

Zenvo will put two of their impressive TSR-S hypercars for visitors to admire, with 1,177 hp from a twin-turbocharged 5.8-Liter V8 engine, the TSR-S can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds, only 4 seconds later the tacho will show 200 km/h … the top speed for this amazing hypercar is electronically limited to 325 km/h, and keeping the car firmly down to the track comes courtesy of the patented Zenvo active Centripetal wing at the rear.

This very special, active rear wing will tilt upward under braking to act as an air brake, but much more impressive to look at is the angle of the wing that changes when the Zenvo TSR-S takes a corner on the track at speed to change downforce actively to the inner side of the car for minimal body roll … and it just looks cool too.

The absolutely stunning looking Baltisk Blå (pearl metallic blue) TSR-S will be shown inside the Michelin Supercar Paddock during the 2021 Goodwood FoS, the place to be for visitors to admire the most recent, state-of-the-art, most powerful, and record-setting cars from all over the world … supercar and hypercar heaven for sure.
But Zenvo is bringing a second TSR-S to Goodwood, their more recent Ishvid Perlemor (pearl metallic white) finished one with the plethora of clear carbon fiber parts, the car this intended to showcase at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but as that was canceled too, and just about every subsequent event, the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed will probably be a perfect possibility for many to view this car for the first time.

But wait, there is more … all the way from Denmark, Zenvo will bring their TS1 GT demo car (the two TSR-S are already located in the UK at the time of writing), to be positioned at its team base near the Goodwood circuit. The TS1 GT also comes with a twin-turbocharged 5.8-Liter V8 engine and a sequential injection … power output in the GT is 1,104 hp at 7,100 rpm, but it takes 3.0 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, and while that’s 0.2 seconds slower than the TSR-S, the top speed of the TS1 GT is higher with an impressive 375 km/h.

The Volkswagen I.D. R wasn’t the only electric vehicle to set a record at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Chinese startup Nio showed up with its all-electric EP9, piloted by Peter Dumbreck, for the supercar shootout, and the car made a splash of its own, with a hill climb time of just 44.61 seconds.
While it’s not as quick as the Volkswagen, Nio’s sprint makes it the fastest road-legal car on this course, beating, as Motor Authority notes, the McLaren P1 LM‘s time of 47.07 seconds in 2016. The only modification on the Nio EP9: a set of racing slicks.
This isn’t the first record set by the Chinese electric hypercar. Last year, the Nio EP9 set a record at the Nürburgring, lapping it in just 6:45.90. It’s still the fastest EV at the ‘Ring, and only a small handful of road-legal and race cars have ever done better.
With 1,342 horsepower, a top speed of 194 miles per hour, and can sprint from 0-124 mph in just 7.1 seconds, the EP9 is a beast. It’s priced like it, too, at nearly $1.5 million and a very limited production run. The car is also fast without a human driver controlling it, circling Circuit of the Americas in 2:40.33 with a top speed of 160 mph.
For those who want the Nio name without the crazy price, the company has begun delivering its ES8 electric crossover in China. It’s a bit more reasonable with 644 horsepower and a price tag of about $68,000.

We’ve got some good and bad news for Nissan GT-R fans. The good news is that stunning Nissan GT-R50 designed by Nissan and Italdesign won’t just be a fancy one-off concept. The companies are prepared to build 50 units of the sports car, provided it’s received well at its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The bad news of course is that there will only be 50 examples of this amazing car.
It’s also going to be eye-wateringly expensive. While a top-rung 2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo starts at $177,185, the GT-R50 will cost an estimated 900,000 euros. At current exchange rates, that’s about $1,060,000. For some additional perspective, that’s more than a McLaren Senna, which comes in just under the $1,000,000 mark.
But this is a seriously exclusive GT-R that marks the important 50th anniversary of the model, and that of Italdesign. It also features radically different styling from a typical GT-R, and each one will be customized to the buyer’s taste. Not only that, but the forged internals, race car turbochargers, upgraded suspension and brakes all ensure this 710-horsepower GT-R is the best performing version of the car to come from Nissan directly. Well, at least the best performing one, so far.

Chinese electric carmaker and NextEV brand Nio says it will show its Performance Program vehicles for the first time in Europe, including entering its EP9 electric hypercar in the hillclimb challenge during the Festival of Speed at Goodwood next month in England.
Scottish race driver Peter Dumbreck will helm the EP9 in the Goodwood Hillclimb challenge after breaking the lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife last year. Nio also plans to display a new EP9 chassis and its Nio 004 Formula E Gen2 car during the festival, which takes place July 12-15.
The EP9, first unveiled in 2016, boasts a megawatt of power, or 1,360 horsepower, with four electric motors, four gearboxes, a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph. The EP9 also set a record for fastest autonomous car last year in Texas.
“Whilst we have competed in the FIA Formula E Championship since its inception and have showcased NIO’s single-seater EV technology through fierce competition on the world’s city streets, this will be the first time that anyone has seen the Nio EP9 Supercar run in anger,” Gerry Hughes, head of Nio’s performance program and Formula E team principal, said in a release.
