1971 Norton Commando “Type 16” By Auto Fabrica

Auto Fabrica is one of those custom bike shops where you don’t really know what they’re going to come up with next. But you’re not worried one bit, because without fail, they put out something incredible each time.

Suffice it to say that everything Auto Fabrica touches turns to gold, and the decked-out 1971 Norton Commando you see above is an example of why this British is a bright star in the motorcycle community.

So, what happened here? Well, they replaced the legendary 1971 Norton Commando’s body with a brand-new aluminum one. In addition, they threw in a new amplified boat tail especially made for the bike. As such, the fluid aesthetic shines. The result is a bodywork that flows smoothly with the air-cooled parallel twin engine, which Auto Fabrica rebuilt using a high-compression head and a two-in-one stainless manifold integrated into a carburetor from Amal.

Originally, the client wanted a “Type 6,” which is a custom Yamaha XS650 built three years ago. But Auto Fabric didn’t want to do a repeat job. As a compromise, they simply added “Type 6” styling cues to the 1971 Norton Commando. The result is, as you can see, a stunner. But it was a challenge to finish.

The shop had to strip the Norton down to nothing and built everything from the ground up, and the image you see above is the result of excellent craftsmanship and a little bit of madness, just like the work of true artists.

Auto Fabrica’s New Type 7

Weren’t we all supposed to be flying around on hoverboards by now? Well, in the meantime you could enjoy Auto Fabrica’s new type 7 model. Founded by brothers in 2013, Auto Fabrica specialize in crafting bespoke motorbikes. It all started with them wanting to build a bespoke bike that would not be seen elsewhere on the roads and a bike that neither of them could afford at the time.

Their workshop is based in Southend-On-Sea and is the hub of everything from creative designs to manufacturing prototypes. They pride themselves on their unique product by obsessing over the smallest details. Auto Fabric’s custom-made approach has propelled them as front runners in the motorcycling world. They centre their skills by enhancing Yamaha SRs; their latest customization of the Yamaha SR500 Type 7 is just awe-inspiring work.

They took the clothes off of a model… a SR500 1980 model to be exact, and completed a full rebuild, including new motors, a bespoke tank and exhausts, and high-performing pistons. They have transformed the original into a bespoke sensation available in metallic black (Type 7D) or in a gloss white (Type 7E). Which one would you go for?

Auto Fabrica Type 11 Motorcycle

UK-based bike customizer Auto Fabrica has revealed yet another drool-worthy build. Combining sleek, retro-futuristic shapes with serious power, their Type 11 Motorcycle is a head-turner–one that will soon be available for purchase.

Based on the already highly-capable Yamaha XSR900, the new cafe racer draws inspiration from the automotive shapes of the ’50s and ’60s. It boasts a hand-beat front bullet metallic fairing that seamlessly flows into the tank and the sharp-looking seat.

The powerful three-cylinder 900cc engine inside the beast breathes through a handmade stainless steel exhaust, while a flip-up panel in the tank cleverly conceals the fuel filler.

Complete with a custom subframe, aluminum grips, billet aluminum yokes, carbon-nylon parts, custom rear light unit, Motologic unit flush integrated into the tank, and RST carbon wheels, Type 11 will be ready for deliveries by the end of the year. Available in a “strictly limited number.”
