Corvette ZR1 Beats New Viper GTS and Sets Laguna Seca Record | Sx-Z

Motor Trend recently pinned the Corvette ZR1 against its closest rival, the new SRT Viper GTS, around Laguna Seca.

Chevrolet built the the 2009 model year Corvette ZR1 as the fastest production corvette in the Chevy family. The ZR1 was constructed with a 638 hp, supercharged V-8 engine, 604 pound-feet of torque and goes from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The ZR1 weighs in at 3,344 pounds.

The SRT Viper GTS, on the other hand, was built with almost the exact specifications as the ZR1. The Viper boasts 640 hp, a normally-aspirated V-10 engine, 600 pound-feet of torque and goes from the same 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The Viper weighs 13 pounds more at 3,357 pounds.

The ZR1 and Viper have almost identical trap speeds, lateral acceleration and braking results.

And the winner is… the Corvette ZR1. Beating the Viper by just two seconds, the ZR1 also managed to set a new Laguna Seca lap record for a production car with a record time of 1:33.70.

The SRT Viper GTS is no slow poke though, its lap time of 1:35.77 still managed to beat the Ferrari 458 Italia, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus LFA.
