This morning Apple revealed that it’ll be hosting an event March 27 in Chicago. The invitations said the event will focus on “creative new ideas for teachers and students.” In the past, Apple’s March events have resulted in some new devices, like the iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro, but it’s an event not known for revealing ground-breaking product news, especially when it’s so close to Apple’s big WWDC conference in June. Last year, for instance, it released Product RED versions of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, along with new Apple Watch bands and a $329 iPad. This year’s event will have a strong focus on education, but as far as if or what new gadgets will be revealed — there’s only speculation.
The first product we’re hoping to see is the AirPower charging mat. Rumors started circulating a few weeks back that Apple’s wireless charging matt will be released in March, so this fits the bill. As a reminder, the AirPower mat will be able to charge any of the newest iPhones, Apple Watch Series 3s and the second-gen AirPods when they come out.
Next, education-focused events always seem to focus on budget-friendly computers. That’s why we’re guessing Apple will release an even cheaper version of its MacBook Air. Currently, the cheapest MacBook Air you can get costs $999, so we’re guessing that price could drop to around $799. Maybe.
Last year Apple announced the most affordable iPad ever. Simply called iPad, it had a dumbed-down processor and camera than the previous iPad Air 2, but it had virtually the same 9.7-inch Retina display as the newer iPad Pro. (Although, it didn’t have the Pro’s True Tone technology.) This year Apple could release an even cheaper iPad that costs under $300.
