Ahead of the Detroit auto show, Acura is teasing its next-generation RDX crossover, replacing the current model that was refreshed for 2016. The folks at Acura say this RDX will be its best-performing to date, but they weren’t clear about what that means. We imagine the new compact crossover will have more oomph than the current 279-hp V6-powered 2017 model. There’s even a chance a performance boost could come by way of electrification or turbocharging, but we won’t know until the North American International Auto Show in January.

Judging just from the teaser, this prototype looks more aggressively styled than the current model, too. The nose looks slightly longer, and the top profile seems more coupe-like. Of course, this is a teaser of a prototype, so it’s hard to say what cues will carry over to the production version. That said, Honda and Acura have been good at debuting prototypes and concepts that look close to what is slated for the roads.
