It’s time to face the facts—people now spend an unhealthy amount of time on their smartphones. In fact, researchers struggle to come up with ways to curb our addiction. We’ve seen apps that forcibly limit your screen time or access to some apps, but it’s not a foolproof solution. The latest build of YouTube shares how much time you spent watching videos and even lets you set a reminder to take a break. The Verizon Palm hopes to offer a solution with its latest device and we found it a little peculiar.
Over the years, mobile phones have evolved from being the size of bricks to that of a lipstick. However, as smartphone technology improved and the availability of multimedia content grew in proportion, the need for bigger screens soon followed. Modern handsets now flaunt phablet-size screens with pocket-friendly dimensions as bezels continue to shrink. Therefore, Palm intends to discourage users from prolonged usage with a smaller screen and limited functionality.
Despite its diminutive dimensions the upcoming device sports a classy appearance. Nonetheless, don’t be fooled by how it looks, because this unit acts more like an accessory. It pairs with your existing smartphone in order to access some basic functions such as calls, messages, and a few apps.
The Palm carries a 445ppi 3.3-inch display, which in our opinion effectively discourages us from messing around with it—other than to access basic telephony features. It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with 3GB of RAM. The 32GB internal storage is non-expandable and the 800mAh battery is not really ideal for the long haul. It will be offered exclusively by Verizon for $10 on top of your monthly bill.
